SAFEGUARDING

Safeguarding at Our Lady & St. Michael's Parish

The parish of Our Lady and Saint Michael, Abergavenny, is committed ti the Safeguarding policies of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, to protect children and vulnerable adults from neglect, physical, emotional and sexual abuse and to promote a safe environment for them. 

This commitment flows from the fact that we are all made in the image of God and the common belief of the Church in the dignity and uniqueness of every human life.
 
We start from the principle that each child has the right to experience the highest level of care and protection, love, encouragement and respect that we can give. 

We will liaise closely with the statutory agencies to ensure that any allegations of abuse that may occur are promptly reported and properly dealt with, victims supported and perpetrators held to account. It is the policy of the parish that all those who work with children and vulnerable adults are officially checked and cleared through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). 

SAFEGUARDING

The parish has a dedicated team of safeguarding representatives. All are trained and absolutely committed to our Diocese Safeguarding Policy. Contact Will or Evelyn Duggan for further information concerning our checks and processes.

CSAS

The Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service (CSAS) emphasises that Safeguarding goes to the very heart of the ministry and mission of our Catholic Church. Safeguarding is about nurturing wellbeing, helping individuals realise their potential and of course it is about ensuring everyone is safe and protected from harm and abuse.

SAFEGUARDING REPORTS

The Catholic Church through the NCSC conducts an annual National survey centred around the subject of best practice with regards to Safeguarding.  The reports provide a transparent

EDUCARE

The parish of Our Lady and St Michael's  participates in the EduCare  programme. This brings to our Community and the wider church  an e-learning package which raises awareness throughout the Catholic Community in England and Wales. The e-learning package is part of the Church’s commitment to safeguarding, and is available to all members of the Catholic community.
